Traditional Chinese Crafts - Kite History

Kites were invented by ancient Chinese laborers during the Spring and Autumn period of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, dating back over 2000 years. According to legend, Mozi made wooden birds from wood and developed them for three years, making it the earliest origin of kites for humans. Later, Lu Ban used bamboo to improve the material of Mo Zhai's kites. It was not until the Eastern Han Dynasty, when Cai Lun improved his papermaking skills, that people began to use paper to make kites, known as "paper kites".

During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, kites began to become tools for transmitting information; Starting from the Sui and Tang dynasties, due to the development of the paper industry, people began to use paper to frame kites; In the Song Dynasty, flying kites became a popular outdoor activity among people.
